A Quick Note on Upcoming Changes

On July 4, 2024 (yesterday), I took a quick nap before posting the day's news stories. As it happens, while napping I was logged out of twitter and gmail. I was able to log back into gmail, but not twitter. As it turns out, I needed to send an email from my connected account so that twitter could reset my passwords.

Sadly, the email for borderObserver was on Microsoft's outlook email service. When I went back to login, my account was not accessible and NONE of my passwords worked. I had two-factor authorization setup, but outlook kept responding with the wrong email domain to send me instructions. To be clear, it appears the outlook account was hacked.

While I could work to get the account back on outlook, getting the original email address was likely not possible. I've had this problem before with outlook. M$ is just the worst email service. I was on outlook because M$ bought hotmail, which has long been swallowed up by M$. So I no longer plan to use ANY Microsoft products.

THE PROBLEM NOW IS TWITTER, and the solution now is Twitter.

While I CANNOT login to my @borderObserver account, I can login with a new account @border_observer (note the underscore between the 'r' and the 'o').

In addition, the automated posting - that is hooked up to @borderObserver - is still working. This means I can post tweet to @borderObserver, but I cannot respond to tweets on that account.

THERE IS A SOLUTION

The solution is to set up a new automated posting account and transition ALL followers to that new account (@border_observer). The process is now underway for this new automated posting system, but it will take a day or two to before complete - likely finished over the weekend or Monday.

AND NOW GOOD NEWS

@borderObserver has the direct phone numbers to several followers and emails to a few others. @subxnews, in particular, as volunteered to lend a hand in the transition. He may contact you via twitter or DM on twitter. He is in Chicago and works daily to report from the ground. He is up at all hours, but does get sleep (from time to time.) ;-)

MORE GOOD NEWS

@SpaceCowboyzl, in particular, has known for months that we have been planning a website. @subxnews and @3Strands4now know we have had plans but not the details.

What this website means is that ALL tweets we make will now have a permanent home that is easier to use (to find any past tweets) than the twitter search system.

In addition, a flickr account has been setup so pictures and videos we have collected from twitter will be available in a new organized library.

If you have any questions, please use the NEW twitter account @border_observer
